우리는 매일 익숙함과 낯섦이라는 두 세계를 오간다.

분명 처음 마주하는 풍경임에도 어디선가 본 듯한 기시감, 데자뷰(Déjà Vu).
그리고 늘 곁에 있던 대상이 어느 날 갑자기 생경하게 느껴지는 미시감, 자메뷰(Jamais Vu).

이 상반된 두 감각은 우리 내면에서 서로를 마주 보며 끝없이 대치한다. 익숙한 것이 낯설어지고, 낯선 것이 익숙해지는 이 충돌의 지점에서, 우리는 깨닫는다.
우리의 의식 아래에는 통제할 수 없는 무의식의 순환이 흐르고 있다는 사실을 말이다.

무의식은 직선으로 나아가지 않는다. 마치 회전목마처럼, 혹은 제 꼬리를 무는 뱀처럼 같은 자리를 돌고 돌며 우리에게 잊혔던 기억과 억눌린 감정들을 끊임없이 되돌려 보낸다.

포르테서울의 네 번째 전시, 《 Déjà vs. Jamais : 데자 대 자메 》는 이 보이지 않는 궤도를 수면 위로 끌어올린다. 특히 닮은 듯 다른, 혹은 서로의 거울 이미지가 되는 쌍둥이 작가 김하늘과 김가논의 드로잉은 이러한 무의식의 순환을 들춰낸다.

We move each day between two worlds: the familiar and the unfamiliar.

At times, we encounter a scene for the very first time, yet experience the uncanny feeling that we have seen it before. This sensation is known as déjà vu. At other moments, something that has always been familiar suddenly appears strange and unrecognizable. This is jamais vu.

These two opposing sensations stand face to face within us in an endless tension. At the point where the familiar becomes strange and the strange becomes familiar, we come to realize that beneath our conscious awareness flows a cycle of the unconscious that cannot be fully controlled.

The unconscious does not move in a straight line. Like a carousel endlessly turning, or a serpent swallowing its own tail, it circles back upon itself, repeatedly returning forgotten memories and repressed emotions to the surface.

Gallery Forte Seoul's fourth exhibition, Déjà vs. Jamais, brings this invisible orbit into view. Through the drawings of twin artists Haneul Keem and Kanon Keem, who appear both alike and distinct, and who often function as mirror images of one another, the exhibition reveals the cyclical movements of the unconscious and the subtle tensions that emerge between familiarity and estrangement.
