Bébé ; 아기는 좋은 것을 탐하고,

Bien ;  좋은 것을 향해 나아가며,

Bureau ; 좋음을 담아낼 수 있는 시야와 바운더리를 만든다.

아이의 세계는 “좋다/싫다”의 감각적 이분법으로 시작된다. 어떤 맛, 어떤 향, 어떤 색이 마음에 드는지, 단순한 놀이의 순간에도 가치 판단이 이루어진다. 이러한 탐색의 에너지가 반복되고 쌓이면 아이는 가치의 패턴을 학습한다. 본능이 질서로 구조화되는 것이다. 놀이를 통해 의미를 얻고, 자기만의 규율과 시야를 세운다. 

잠깐, 이 모든 과정 이면에는 숨은 비밀이 있다. 

프랑스 철학자 라캉(Jacques Lacan, 1901 - 1981)에 따르면, 자아(ego)는 거울 속 이미지와의 동일시를 통해 나라는 주체가 세워지는 과정이다. 거울을 처음 본 순간 아이는 낯선 이를 경험한다. 거울 속 자신의 모습은 지금껏 타인의 시선이 저장된 데이터이기 때문이다. 이를 확장하면, 자신의 모습을 보며 긍정으로 혹은 부정으로 느끼는 모든 감상조차 타인이 부여한 것이라는 결론에 이른다. 타인으로부터 쌓인 감각들이 욕망으로 발현되어, 아이를 행동하게 한다.

갤러리 포르테서울은 두 번째 전시, ≪ Bébé • Bien • Bureau : 베비부 ≫를 통해, 이러한 자아의 비밀을 탁상에 올려 놓는다. 삶의 시간이 만든 자신을 보존한 채, 여생동안 스스로를 어떻게 육아할 것인지 고민하는 자리가 된다.

Bébé; The infant craves that which is 'good.'

Bien; One advances toward the 'good.'

Bureau; One constructs a vision and boundary capable of containing that 'goodness.'

A child’s world begins with a sensory dichotomy: "like" versus "dislike." Whether it is a specific taste, scent, or color, value judgments are made even in the simplest moments of play. As this energy of exploration accumulates through repetition, the child learns the patterns of value. Instinct is thus structured into order. Through play, they derive meaning and establish their own set of rules and perspectives.

Yet, there is a hidden secret behind this entire process.

According to the French philosopher Jacques Lacan (1901–1981), the ego is formed through a process of identification with one's reflected image—the "Mirror Stage." The first time a child sees themselves in a mirror, they encounter a stranger. This is because the image in the mirror is a collection of data stored through the eyes of others. Extending this logic, even the emotions one feels when looking at oneself—whether positive or negative—are ultimately endowed by others. These senses, accumulated from the outside world, manifest as "desire" and drive the child to act.

In its second exhibition, ≪ Bébé • Bien • Bureau ≫, Gallery Forte Seoul lays this secret of the self upon the table. It serves as a space to contemplate how we might continue to "parent" ourselves for the rest of our lives, while still preserving the essence of who we have become through the passage of time.
